The Great Green Room (GGR) is the Writers' House group for children's writers and illustrators of picture books, young adult, and middle grade fiction and non-fiction. If you are a writer for younger audiences or interested in becoming one, this group is here to provide an open forum and network for you. Over 100 writers from across the state have already joined together as the foundation of this group.
The Great Green Room meets the third Tuesday of every month from 6-8pm at the Iowa Public Library in meeting Room B.
All are welcome at whatever stage of the writing journey you are in!

ABOUT THE GREAT GREEN ROOM
The Great Green Room began its journey as an IWH writing community on Tuesday, March 15, at the Iowa City Public Library. Authors Sarah Prineas (The Magic Thief) and Michelle Edwards (Chicken Man) started the group to help encourage and cultivate a community focused on children’s literature, young adult (YA) books, and illustrations. They are assisted by author Delia Ray (Ghost Girl) and Susan Benton. The first meeting was a smashing success with a fantastic turnout of at least fifteen writers. Author Ilona Holland (Buddy Bison’s Yellowstone Adventure) made the trip all the way from Delaware to support the room's initial gathering.
Here at IWH, we strive to curate the best experiences possible in craft, career, and community, so that whatever your endeavors may be as a writer, you know you can find a home and a helping hand with us. We hope to create even more rooms based on your interests, but we need your help and your passion. If you’re interested in joining any of our existing communities, or if you have suggestions/requests for other rooms, let us know at iowawritershouse@gmail.com. We are always looking for more ideas and more concierge volunteers to help execute those ideas, so don’t be afraid to lend your voice! We need you and your story.

In April, 2015, the Iowa Writers’ House peeked through the woodwork of Iowa City’s literary community and saw an opportunity to build something special. The growth we have experienced in just one year has seen a mixture of trial and error, celebrated successes, and most importantly, a perseverance among our members to build a writing community that we can be proud to call home. As we celebrate our one-year anniversary, join us in looking back on the events of 2015!
